WELCOME to this website and information about your Benefice.

The Kessingland Benefice consists of three villages:

Kessingland is a coastal village with a significant holiday industry. Its population is just under 5000 and it hosts a substantial amount of holiday parks. The church is set at the beach end of the village and also has a church centre where a weekly coffee morning and food-bank collection point are hosted. Several groups are held in the Church Centre for the community most weeks, ranging from Toddler Groups to pensioners mid week groups, lunches, gardening club and dog training. Kessingland Church is open daily from 10am to 4pm and is steeped in its fishing culture and history.

Gisleham is just a mile to the east of Kessingland and has a population of around 400. Its church is set in a rural village, and is predominantly farming. there are no shops schools or pubs but there is a community “Hut” where several social and community events are held. Gisleham church is open everyday.

Rushmere is the smallest village and church, with just 25 households and no retail, school, pub or community halls. Rushmere church is not open everyday but there is a contact number should you wish to visit the church.

These three beautiful 13th century places of worship serve all the people in all the three villages. You can get up to date news and events on all three villages on our Facebook Page Kessingland Benefice

The Kessingland Benefice, although situated on the East Suffolk coast is within the Diocese of Norwich,  which itself covers all of Norfolk and this small part of Suffolk for the Province of  Canterbury.   The nearby city of Norwich, around twenty miles west has a magnificent cathedral which is seat to the Bishop of Norwich.
